There, peeping above the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up and out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing; there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach. J.R.R. Tolkien

Finally....Smiling

Wow. All the gift pressure and non-potty-trained 4-year-old pressure and homeschool challenges and Brian's work schedule and ...... etc. has left me quite short on smiles this month. Today, some smiling finally happened. My friend Valerie came over with her kids and Valerie and I started playing the keyboard for some random reason. We ended up displaying our equally rusty piano skills, while still demonstrating that we can read music (although not necessarily that well in bass clef). Since neither or us can actually play right and left hand together without intense physical and mental agony (not to mention the sheer torture for anyone listening), we decided to play duet-style. It was hilarious and ear-splitting and just brought something into my month that hasn't been there so far. It is possible that Joy to the World sounds better with a reggae beat than you've ever heard it before. Yup, another little moment of that pure joy. Thanks God! (and Valerie)
