There, peeping above the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up and out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing; there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach. J.R.R. Tolkien

The Puritan Prayer

This one is framed in my kitchen and I often read it. It's one of my heart cries.

Teach us to place our happiness in thee,
the blessed God,
never seeking life among the dead
things of earth,
or asking for that which satisfies the deluded;
but may we prize the light of thy smile,
implore the joy of thy salvation,
find our heaven in thee.

Wow, in one sentence. Please God? Keep teaching me this one?
