There, peeping above the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up and out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing; there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach. J.R.R. Tolkien

Just One

Today was a thrill.

OK, so the weird migraine where I can't see out of my left eye very well hasn't been a thrill.
The continued stabbing pain in my face is also not a thrill.
The rest of the list of yuckiness that is too boring to type has also not been a thrill.

But....

I got to teach about how Jesus is the ONLY way. He's the ONLY way to bridge the separation between us and God. He's the ONLY way. And any time I get to teach about that, it's a thrill.

I look at these precious kids and feel such an urgency, such a need to tell them that it is ultimate tragedy to be separated from God. There is only loneliness, deep fear, blackness. Light, music, friends, family, joy, laughter, beauty--it will be gone. Forever.

So I told them again today as I have with so many groups of kids over the years.
It's all about Jesus.
And I prayed.
And I'm still praying.
I don't want one of them to choose against Jesus.
