There, peeping above the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up and out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing; there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach. J.R.R. Tolkien

The Drain

Today is a hard day for Joseph. Some small disappointments have started him on the path to just letting it overshadow his whole day. I finally had a rather serious talk with him about how he is letting something small send his whole day down the drain. Very cheerfully, Elijah piped up and said, "My day is still over the drain." Joseph actually smiled. Elijah then offered to go down the drain to help Joseph.

I guess that is kind of true. We're probably all poised over the drain most days and we get to decide if we're going to plunge in or stay over it.
