There, peeping above the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up and out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing; there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach. J.R.R. Tolkien

New York

We had the opportunity to go to New York recently. We were in western New York. I wrote about my awful ear infection, but never got around to posting any pictures of our trip. It really was lovely. Our favorite part was getting to see our friend, but the scenery was a close second! He lives right by a lake. It's like living in a postcard. Lake Erie was fascinating to me. It's HUGE! It actually has tide. We walked along the shore for a mile or so. Also, we actually crossed over into Canada to see Niagra Falls. Wow!! It was super windy, but we actually found out that was a good thing because it blew away a lot of the mist that usually obscures the falls. We all laughed pretty hard because it was so chilly and windy that the first thing we did was get hot coffee at none other than....Starbucks....in Canada!
