There, peeping above the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up and out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing; there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach. J.R.R. Tolkien

#4: Veggie Wash

I believe in washing veggies and fruit. I realize I cannot entirely undo the effects of pesticides on anything that isn't organic, but I can certainly take care of unwashed hands that have pawed through my fruit and veggies. I have tried various mixes and approaches and I like the one I read about online that was featured on an Oprah show.

1 C. water
1 C. white vinegar
1 T. baking soda
20 drops grapefruit seed extract

I make a half batch. It fits nicely in my spray bottle. This will really foam up, so make it in a deep pitcher or bowl of some kind and let it settle down. If you put it in the spray bottle right away, it will start seeping out the nozzle.

I find myself cleaning my wooden cutting board with this or cleaning the counter with it since it's usually sitting out on my counter. Very versatile and cheap.

Grapefruit seed extract is a natural anti-bacterial. I bought a small bottle at my natural grocery store two years ago for about $8. It is not anywhere close to being used up. If you don't want the bother of the grapefruit seed extract, just mix vinegar and baking soda. Classic, multi-purpose cleanser.
