There, peeping above the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for awhile. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up and out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing; there was light and high beauty forever beyond its reach. J.R.R. Tolkien

Possible Hearing Issue

I think Elijah has a hearing issue. This was our morning just before we left for church.

Me: Elijah, please go brush your teeth.

E: Mom, can you feel that bump when you swallow?

Me: Ummm. Yes. Can you please go brush your teeth?

E: What are these thingies in my neck? Are they cords?

Me: What did I just ask you to do?

E: Do you have them too? What are they?

Me: Go. Now. Do as I asked.

E: Are they bones?

Me: I'll be in the car waiting for you. We need to leave for church.

E: Oh. What did you ask me to do?

This sort of thing happens way too often. Outright defiance is easier to handle. Not fun, but easier. The preschool staff did suggest he have a hearing test....
